Throughout the game, in many dungeons, the PC can chance upon various magical pools. Drinking from them has a completely random effect. Here's a set of what can happen and what message will you get when that occurs.

Positive effects:

"You feel very flexible" - you gain resistance to petrification.
"You feel hot-headed" - you gain resistance to cold.
"You feel very controlled" - you gain resistance to stuns.
"Your eyes tingle for a second" - you gain the ability to see invisible creatures. "You feel lucky" - you become lucky.
"You feel very lucky" - fortune smiles upon you.
"You feel like jumping around" - you gain control over teleportation.
"What do you wish for?" - you are granted a wish. That's potentially a very powerful bonus.

Neutral effects:

"Your clothes suddenly look much cleaner" - you gain permanent invisibility - this message occurs only if you can see the invisible.
"You feel on air" - you gain temporary invisibility - this message occurs only if you can see the invisible.
"You feel jumpy" - you gain the spontaneous ability to teleport.
"Wow! Pure beer" - equivalent of drinking a potion of Booze

Negative effects:

"You feel gnarly" - you lose resistance to petrification.
"Your eyes sting for a second" - you lose the ability to see invisible creatures.
"You begin the walk on a road to nowhere" - you become doomed.
"You continue the walk on a road to nowhere" - well, you're still doomed.
"You feel very very bad" - you become cursed.
"You sense trouble" - you become cursed.
"You suddenly hate the idea of jumping around" - you lose control over teleportation.

Other messages:

Note: The pools have a number of different descriptions (Blue Pool, Bloody Pool etc.), but that does not seem to have any significance.
